The microAethalometer^™ MA450 is a real-time multi-wavelength UV-IR Black Carbon monitor housed in a weather-resistant outdoor enclosure with an automatic filter tape advance system for extended continuous measurements up to a year between site visits.

The MA450 comes with a built-in pump, closed-loop flow control, and 16 GB of internal data storage, powered by external 12V DC for continuous unattended operation. The MA450 also features built-in GPS, satellite time synchronization, accelerometer, altimeter/barometer, and sensors for relative humidity and temperature. Built-in WiFi provides automatic data upload to the AethLabs Dashboard server, and an optional factory-installed Nafion^® dryer and secondary pump supports deployment in humid environments.

The MA450 is designed as a network node to be installed outdoors on street poles and along fence lines for extended multi-month measurement campaigns with low maintenance and infrequent site visits. The filter tape cartridge allows for long term continuous sampling for up to a year depending on the sampling environment conditions and instrument settings.

The multi-wavelength measurement provides insight into the composition of light absorbing carbonaceous particles and distinguishes among the different optical signatures of various combustion sources such as traffic and woodsmoke.

The instrument supports the patented DualSpot^® loading compensation method which corrects for optical loading effects and provides additional information about aerosol optical properties.
